A semblance of fall arrived in the Southland today– this morning it was actually clear, dry and in the 60′s. I am not sure exactly by what mechanism this happens, but Labor Day often seems to be a marker of the end of the relentlessly hot summers around here.
I am grateful, of course, as it made the job of rounding up all the crap out in the yard less of a nightmare. It always amazes me how much crap we accumulate, even when (as is the case around here) the process of shedding the excess has already been “in progress” for years. Wanna buy some used store fixtures? Got some on eBay. Otherwise, please drive by the house and pick up any of the junk out by the street… where you see the large “Free Stuff!” sign.
Literally 100s of moving boxes have been packed. For someone who’s striving for minimalism, that might sound like a contradiction, but I’m not getting rid of the books– and they are always the culprits, when it comes to weight and volume, when I move. There’s a lot of stuff I have shed from my life, but books are generally not going to be one of them. The same goes for CDs, for that matter.
Just a quickie, today, as I need to get back to it. I think everything’s on schedule– and there’s nothing I’dike more than to wake up with a couple of days to go… realizing that everything has already been packed and is ready.
Yeah, I know. Fat chance.

I was cold this morning. Its hard to go from 106 to 60 giggle.
I’ve decided I won’t buy books any more unless they’re really special. My collection from college is huge and I never read a book twice LOL
I give my books away or sell them as soon as I am finished with them I would have mountains of books otherwise. Judi
The sun came out here for the first time since Saturday. I have found great freedom in getting rid of lots of my books. I havent missed any of em yet. Ooooh 11 more days!! — Sue
And then there are others who wish they could go to sleep and wake up 20 years ago.
I’ve been thinking about you. Glad you’re getting better weather. I cart books around also and prefer buying them instead of borrowing from the library. (unless it’s just trashy fiction….then I read and discard). I also have a thing about how books smell. I don’t like the smell of books that have been mandhandled.

Donate the books to the library, then check them out when you want to reread. Yeah, I can’t do it either. (Though I have started checking out from the library more than buying.)
Yeah, I get the book and CD thing. If it’s worth it to you, you keep them. I have started to cull out my books. A little from time to time. ONce they’re gone, I don’t see them and therefor don’t miss them. But deciding which to let go, well that’s tough.
Like you I want the minimal in posessions. I really don’t have that much when I think about it. But still. I look at my apartment and see more than I want to.
Every year I attempt to go through my apartment and de-clutter my life … get rid of the “things” that I don’t need … because we absolutely do accumulate way too much stuff that just fills our homes and lives.
But i’m with you on the books … those are the things that just keep accumulating and always will in my life …

Oh I love fall weather! My favorite part is the cooler mornings and evenings but super warm afternoons. I love the fog that rolls in at dawn, all the dew somehow sets the fragrence of the fall leaves. Theres hot apple cider to be enjoyed… hot cocoa… for some reason coffee is more enjoyable in autmn. You break out the light sweaters and jackets… it gets cozy! Awww… I miss fall!
I sense a slight weather change on the islands…sometimes the plumeria lose their leaves. Eh, but its nothing like home.
